Heroes That Counter Qi

Qi is a Clash Lane fighter who thrives on sudden engages. Skill 1 Star-Chasing Palm Star-Chasing Palm dashes in a chosen direction and knocks up enemies along the way, skill 2 Heaven-Shaking Palm Heaven-Shaking Palm strikes repeatedly in front of her and reduces the target’s armor, and her ultimate Vast Palm Vast Palm knocks enemies back; if the victim slams into terrain, they take bonus damage and get stunned, after which Qi can dash again. Her passive Guardian Qi Guardian Qi makes the 2 basic attacks after each skill hit gain attack speed, deal bonus physical damage and heal her. Qi Qi ‘s weaknesses are pretty clear: her strongest stun needs a nearby wall, she has no CC immunity skill, all her damage is physical, and once both dashes are used she’s very easy to catch. Cleanses, CC immunity and heroes tanky enough to take her combo and hit back are the most effective answers. Qi Qi ‘s counters include Skud, Allain, Kil’Groth in the Clash Lane, Zanis, Rourke in the jungle, Chaugnar, Y’bneth at support and Hayate in the Farm Lane.

Items That Counter Qi

Gilded Greaves

Gilded Greaves grant 60 Movement Speed and 35% Resistance, which reduces the duration of all types of crowd control. Qi gets kills by chaining the knock-up from Star-Chasing Palm Star-Chasing Palm into the stun from knocking targets into walls with Vast Palm Vast Palm ; shortening each CC gives you more time to fight back or escape.

Mail of Pain

Mail of Pain reflects 5% of each hit you take back to the attacker as true damage; activate Retaliate to raise the reflection to 25% for 3 seconds. Heaven-Shaking Palm Heaven-Shaking Palm hits many times in a row and Qi always has to stand right on top of her target, so the effect is barely reduced by distance. Activate Retaliate as soon as she dashes in.

Blade of Eternity

The Rebirth passive revives the hero 2 seconds after being killed, right on the spot, with 2100 – 3500 HP. It has a 150-second cooldown and can trigger 2 times per match; Battle Spirit also increases damage dealt by 10%. Qi usually dives straight at carries, and once she’s burned both dashes to take you down, the revive is your chance to strike back.

Purify

Purify removes all debuffs and crowd control effects and grants crowd control immunity for 1.5 seconds. Use it right after getting knocked up by Star-Chasing Palm Star-Chasing Palm or stunned after being knocked into a wall by Vast Palm Vast Palm , and you’ll escape the empowered basic attack chain Qi was about to unleash.

How to Counter Qi in 1vs1 Solo

Stay away from terrain: Vast Palm Vast Palm only stuns if it knocks you into a wall. Farm minions in the open middle of the lane, and don’t stand near walls or turret edges while Qi has her ultimate up.

Dodge the opening dash: Most of Qi’s engages start with Star-Chasing Palm Star-Chasing Palm . Dodge it or take the knock-up in a safe spot, because if it lands, her passive Guardian Qi Guardian Qi gives her 2 basic attacks with bonus attack speed, extra damage and healing.

Don’t stand still against Heaven-Shaking Palm: Heaven-Shaking Palm Heaven-Shaking Palm strikes repeatedly in front of her and reduces your armor. Step out of its path instead of eating the whole thing, or the follow-up hits will hurt a lot more.

Punish once her dashes are gone: Qi only has the dash from Star-Chasing Palm and the dash after Vast Palm. Once both are used, she has no way to retreat, and that’s when you should unload your damage.

How to Counter Qi in Team Fights

Spread out away from walls: Vast Palm Vast Palm knocks back multiple targets at once, and anyone who hits terrain gets stunned. Fight in open areas and stay spread out so Qi can’t stun your whole team.

Protect your marksmen and mages: Qi usually goes after the carries in the backline. Save a crowd control skill for when she dashes in with Star-Chasing Palm Star-Chasing Palm ; Qi has no CC immunity, so every stun and knock-up works on her.

Have a team-wide cleanse ready: Chaugnar’s ultimate Chaos Protection Chaos Protection removes crowd control from all allies. If you have it, use it right after Qi’s knockback to save anyone stunned against a wall.

Finish her fast once she’s in: After diving into the middle of your team, Qi has a hard time getting out. Burst her down immediately instead of letting her keep healing through her empowered attacks.
