Heroes That Counter Preyta

After his S2/2026 rework, Preyta is an ultra-long-range poke mage: every skill that hits an enemy stacks plague through his passive Plague Dragon Plague Dragon , detonating at 3 stacks for area damage while also building plague energy that permanently evolves his skills. Skill 1 Toxic Breath Toxic Breath turns him into a “marksman mage” with empowered basic attacks, skill 2 Necrotic Bomb Necrotic Bomb slows and then knocks up, while his ultimate Plague Plague fires three shockwaves that travel as far as 1800. The trade-off is that Preyta Preyta has no dash at all to escape, is fairly weak early before building enough energy, his knock-up is delayed and easy to dodge, and his ultimate requires channeling in place, making him very easy to punish. As long as someone closes the gap or locks him down at the right moment, he has almost no way out. The most dangerous counters to Preyta Preyta are Quillen, Nakroth and Keera in the jungle, Tulen and Aleister in the mid lane, and Omen in the Dark Slayer Lane, who can drag him out of his safe spot in the backline.

Items to Counter Preyta

Gilded Greaves

All of Preyta’s damage is magic damage, and his Skill 2 both slows and knocks up. Gilded Greaves provide magic resist and reduce CC duration, helping you escape his magic circle faster.

Medallion of Troy

Preyta thrives on long-range poke before teamfights. Medallion of Troy’s out-of-combat shield that blocks magic damage lets you absorb his first few shockwaves without losing HP before the fight breaks out.

Gaia's Standard

For tanks and frontline fighters, Gaia’s Standard provides a large amount of magic resist plus healing when taking damage, making it very effective against the constant AoE damage from Preyta’s empowered basic attacks and plague.

How to Counter Preyta in 1v1

Pressure him early: Preyta Preyta ‘s power scales with plague energy, which he only gains when his skills hit enemy heroes or when he kills minions and jungle monsters. Actively push the lane, contest minions, and gank early to delay him reaching the 25, 75 and 145 stack thresholds.

Dodge the Skill 2 magic circle: The Necrotic Bomb Necrotic Bomb magic circle only slows at the start, while the knock-up detonates after about 1 second. When you see the circle appear under your feet, move out immediately instead of trying to keep attacking.

Back off when he activates Skill 1: During the roughly 4-second empowerment from Toxic Breath Toxic Breath , Preyta gains extra attack range, attack speed and movement speed. Step out of his range, wait for the effect to end, then go in, since he has no dash to escape.

How to Counter Preyta in Teamfights

Hit the backline: Preyta usually stands very far back to fire the shockwave from Plague Plague (max range 1800). Have your assassins or fighters flank around the sides to reach him instead of the whole team charging straight into the shockwave’s path.

Attack while he’s charging: Before reaching 145 energy stacks, Preyta has to stand still to charge his ultimate—this is the best moment to CC and dive him. After 145 stacks, he can move while casting, so you need to catch him earlier.

Don’t clump up: Plague explodes at 3 stacks and deals AoE damage, and his empowered basic attacks also splash around. Spread out to limit how many people get hit at once.

End the game early: Plague energy permanently evolves his skills, so Preyta keeps getting stronger as the game goes on. When you have the advantage, push towers and close out the game before he gathers enough energy.

Tips for Countering Preyta

Strengths to Watch Out For

  • Extremely long attack range with his ultimate’s shockwave (up to 1800), letting him poke safely from the backline.
  • Deals continuous AoE damage through plague explosions and empowered basic attacks.
  • Gets stronger as the game goes on, since plague energy permanently evolves his skills.
  • Has slow and knock-up crowd control from Skill 2.

Weaknesses to Exploit

  • Has no dash or teleport to escape when dived.
  • Needs to build plague energy through the 25, 75 and 145 stack thresholds to reach full power, so he’s fairly weak early if pressured.
  • Skill 2’s knock-up has about a 1-second delay, making it easy to dodge.
  • Before 145 stacks, his ultimate must be charged in place and is very easy to read.
