Heroes That Counter Heino

Heino Heino fights in two stances: his passive Destined Insight Destined Insight lets him attack from range with divine power or up close with his staff-sword, and each melee hit on an enemy leaves a mark for 7 seconds. Silver-Blue Holy Lance / Cycle of Reincarnation Strike Silver-Blue Holy Lance / Cycle of Reincarnation Strike hurls holy spears from range or throws slowing light blades, healing him when they hit a marked target; Destined Shift Destined Shift dashes and lets him pick his stance, also granting armor, magic defense and HP regen in melee. His ultimate Destined Spacetime Destined Spacetime keeps him in place inside a magic circle, CC immune and healing, then after 1.5 seconds it explodes and teleports him back to the last remembered ranged position, even reverting his own turrets to their state from 8 seconds earlier. Heino’s weaknesses are his lack of hard CC, easily dodged skillshots, and a fairly predictable ultimate return point. Counters to Heino Heino include Lauriel, Yue, Raz in the Mid Lane, Nakroth, Murad in the jungle, Marja in the Dark Slayer Lane, Grakk as support and Violet in the Abyssal Dragon Lane.

Items to Counter Heino

Medallion of Troy

Heino Heino ‘s skills, from Silver-Blue Holy Lance / Cycle of Reincarnation Strike Silver-Blue Holy Lance / Cycle of Reincarnation Strike to the explosion of Destined Spacetime Destined Spacetime , all deal magic damage. The Inner Strength passive of Medallion of Troy Medallion of Troy gradually increases magic defense by level (up to 112), while Safeguard creates a shield that blocks 460 – 1300 magic damage whenever you’ve been out of combat, great for absorbing the first wave of holy spears before striking back.

Gaia's Standard

Whenever you’re hit, Gaia's Standard Gaia's Standard triggers Recovery, restoring 5% max HP over 2 seconds before a 10-second cooldown; Bloodline adds 5% effectiveness for every 10% HP lost. Heino Heino ‘s holy spears are usually thrown from range in waves, so this item helps you recover HP between pokes.

Death Sickle

When you take a fatal blow, Death Sickle Death Sickle keeps you alive with 0.75 seconds of invincibility (1.5 seconds if you’ve carried it for 4 minutes), plus 25% movement speed and 25% attack speed, on a 120-second cooldown. If the magic circle of Destined Spacetime Destined Spacetime detonates right when you’re low on HP, this invincibility window is enough to survive and turn around for a counterattack.

Claves Sancti

Claves Sancti Claves Sancti increases critical damage by 40%, and for ranged heroes each critical hit also grants (3 – 45) movement speed for 1.5 seconds. Fast-stacking damage helps bring down Heino Heino before Destined Spacetime Destined Spacetime can heal him, while the movement speed helps you chase when he teleports back to his previous spot.

How to Counter Heino in 1vs1 Duels

Don’t stay close when he switches to melee: In melee stance, each of Heino’s hits marks you for 7 seconds, and every time his twin light blades hit a marked target he heals. Keep your distance so he loses this source of sustain.

Don’t poke him down and let him pop his ultimate: Destined Spacetime Destined Spacetime heals more the lower Heino’s HP is, up to 2 times. Once you commit, deal all your damage in one burst.

Predict his return point: When his ultimate ends, Heino teleports back to the last position he was at in ranged stance. Remember that spot and wait there instead of standing inside the magic circle.

Be careful when taking turrets: If a turret on Heino’s side is inside the magic circle, it reverts to its state from 8 seconds earlier, even if it was just destroyed. Push him away from the turret area before sending your minions in.

How to Counter Heino in Team Fights

Don’t bunch up: Holy spears launch an extra spear if there’s a marked target ahead, and the ultimate’s explosion hits up to 5 heroes. Spread out so Heino can’t damage multiple people at once.

Dodge skillshots: Both the holy spears and twin light blades fly in a set direction. Move sideways and use your dashes to dodge, especially the 2-second slow from the melee version.

Punish with area damage, not CC: Inside the magic circle, Heino is CC immune and takes reduced damage but can’t move. Throw your AoE skills at him and save your CC for the moment he teleports back.

Focus him while his ultimate is on cooldown: Without the magic circle, Heino only has Destined Shift Destined Shift to escape and no hard CC to fight back with.

Tips for Countering Heino

Strengths to Watch Out For

  • Switches flexibly between ranged and melee.
  • Heals when hitting marked targets; Destined Shift Destined Shift also grants armor and magic defense in melee.
  • Destined Spacetime Destined Spacetime grants CC immunity, heals, then teleports him back to a remembered safe spot.
  • Can revert his own turrets to their state from 8 seconds earlier, even right after they’re destroyed.

Weaknesses to Exploit

  • No hard CC, only a slow from his twin light blades.
  • Skillshots that are easy to dodge.
  • Stands still for 1.5 seconds when using his ultimate, and its return point is fairly predictable.
  • Has to fight in melee to stack marks before he can heal and reduce cooldowns.
