Astrid Counter Heroes

Astrid is a melee fighter who, since the 08/04/2026 update, plays mainly in the jungle and can still hold the top lane. Her passive Sword Heart Sword Heart reduces the cooldowns of skills 1 and 2 every time her basic attacks hit a hero, skill 1 Sword Draw Sword Draw stacks attack speed, movement speed and armor penetration, skill 2 Valor Valor places a Knight’s Mark that empowers her basic attacks, chases and heals, and her ultimate Giant Sword Giant Sword channels for 1 second while invulnerable before slashing out true damage with a stun. After her rework, Astrid Astrid no longer gets a shield from skill 2, so she is squishier, her range is short, and outside of her ultimate she is not immune to crowd control. Hard crowd control after she has slashed, anti-heal, and heroes that are mobile enough or tanky enough to trade blows are the most effective ways to counter her. The best counters to Astrid Astrid are Rourke, Zuka in the jungle, Omen, Florentino in the top lane and Baldum as support.

The Aegis

The Aegis’s passive reduces the attack speed of nearby enemies within 5m by 30%. Astrid’s passive Sword Heart reduces the cooldowns of skills 1 and 2 every time her basic attacks hit a hero, and Sword Draw stacks attack speed, so attacking slower means fewer skills and fewer empowered attacks. Good for tanks and fighters who stand close to her.

Curse of Death

Curse of Death’s passive reduces the target’s healing by 40% for 1.5 seconds, extended to 3 seconds when applied by a basic attack. Astrid heals with the 2-stack attack of Valor (healing more based on missing HP when it hits a hero) and gains lifesteal equal to 50% of Giant Sword’s true damage, so this is a must-have for fighters or junglers who have to face her.

Sonic Boots

Sonic Boots reduce damage taken from basic attacks by 10%. Outside of her ultimate, most of Astrid’s damage comes from basic attacks, especially the empowered Knight’s Mark attacks, so these boots help frontliners and junglers survive longer when she sticks to them.

How to Counter Astrid in 1v1

Don’t run in a straight line when you are marked: Sword Draw Sword Draw gives Astrid movement speed that ramps up from 20% to 60% when she hits a target carrying a Knight’s Mark, so simply running away usually won’t get you out. Turn around to trade blows or use crowd control on her.

Interrupt the 2-stack mark attack: With 2 stacks of Valor Valor , Astrid’s basic attack has to charge up for a brief moment before she dashes in to slash and heal. Keep a stun or knock-up for exactly that moment.

Don’t waste skills while she is channeling: Giant Sword Giant Sword makes Astrid invulnerable from the moment she starts channeling until the slash lands. Back out of the slash range during that 1 second, then counterattack once she has used the skill.

How to Counter Astrid in Teamfights

Bait out her ultimate before the teamfight: Once she has used Giant Sword Giant Sword , Astrid only has Valor Valor to dive in or escape. Let your tankiest frontliner take the slash, then have the whole team focus damage on her.

Hard crowd control after she slashes: The invulnerability ends once Giant Sword has landed. That is the moment to use Wild Prison Wild Prison from Baldum Baldum or Death's Embrace Death's Embrace from Omen Omen to hold her in place.

Anti-heal: The 2-stack attack of Valor Valor and her ultimate both heal Astrid. Junglers or fighters facing her should build Curse of Death Curse of Death .

Build HP instead of only armor: Sword Draw Sword Draw gives Astrid armor penetration and her ultimate deals true damage, so stacking armor is less effective than usual. Tanks should combine HP with The Aegis The Aegis to reduce her attack speed.

Tips to Counter Astrid

Strengths to Watch Out For

  • Giant Sword grants invulnerability and crowd control immunity from the moment she starts channeling until the slash lands, along with true damage and an area stun.
  • Knight’s Mark makes her chases very strong: Sword Draw grants up to 60% movement speed when she hits a marked target.
  • The 2-stack mark attack both knocks back and heals, healing more when it hits a hero.
  • Her passive Sword Heart reduces cooldowns after every basic attack, letting her use skills continuously.

Weaknesses to Exploit

  • She no longer gets a shield from skill 2 after her rework, so she is squishier than before.
  • Her range is short, so she has to get right next to her target to deal damage.
  • Outside of her ultimate she is not immune to crowd control, so the charge-up of her 2-stack mark attack is easy to interrupt.
  • Her healing is easily reduced by anti-heal items.
  • She relies on basic attacks, so she suffers a lot when her attack speed is reduced.
