Heroes That Counter Moren
Counter build against Moren
Moren deals most of his damage with the splashing cannon shells from
Precision
and
Impact Barrage
, so every shot that hits a tank is also a hit he takes himself. The Backlash passive reflects 5% of damage taken as true damage (based on pre-mitigation damage, reduced by distance by up to 50%), while the Counter Fire active raises this to 25% for 3 seconds, on a 75-second cooldown.
Besides +60 movement speed, Sonic Boots’ passive reduces damage taken from basic attacks by 10%. Most of Moren’s damage comes from basic attacks: the splashing cannon shells of
Precision
and the 3 empowered shots of
Impact Barrage
, so these boots steadily cut down his damage in every teamfight.
Unyielding can be used even while crowd controlled and grants 35% damage reduction for 3 seconds; activate it right as
Magnetic Storm
locks onto you to reduce the damage from the rocket barrage. Whenever your skills hit Moren, the Sluggish passive slows him by 30% and reduces his damage dealt by 20% for 3 seconds (8-second cooldown), helping physical fighters and assassins win trades once they’ve closed in.
How to counter Moren in the laning phase
Stand behind minions or teammates: When Moren is on the ground, the cannon shells of
Precision
and
Impact Barrage
can be blocked by heroes, minions or jungle monsters. Marksmen should stand behind the minion wave, while supports stand in front to absorb the shells instead.
Spread out: The cannon shells explode in an area, and Impact Barrage further increases the blast radius of the next 3 attacks. A marksman and support standing close together will both take the damage.
Go aggressive once he’s used Skill 2:
Tactical Maneuver
is both a stealth tool and a way to fly over obstacles. Once Moren has used it, he has to stay on the ground and his shells are easier to block, which is the moment for your support to go in.
Be careful at low HP:
Magnetic Storm
deals damage based on missing HP, so stay out of his range once you’ve lost a lot of health.
How to counter Moren in teamfights
CC him after he lands:
Magnetic Storm
only gives Moren brief CC immunity as he jumps up. Save the stuns of
Gildur
or
Zanis
for the moment he touches down.
Watch out for the smoke bomb:
Tactical Maneuver
makes Moren’s whole team invisible for 3.5 seconds. When you see the smoke, fall back to your formation instead of charging into what you can’t see; reveal skills like those of
Volkath
are extremely valuable here.
Put your tank up front: Cannon shells fired from the ground are blocked by heroes, so a tanky hero standing in front will absorb most of the damage. Combined with
Mail of Pain
, every shell that hits your tank reflects true damage back at him.
Fight right after his combo: Moren needs Skill 1 and his ultimate to deal big damage. Force a fight as soon as he has used them, before they come off cooldown.
Tips for Countering Moren
Strengths to Watch Out For
- Basic attacks splash and deal bonus damage equal to 1% of the target’s max HP.
- Magnetic Storm deals damage based on missing HP, making it great for finishing off targets.
- Tactical Maneuver makes the whole team invisible and lets him fly over terrain.
- Gains brief CC immunity when casting his ultimate.
Weaknesses to Exploit
- While on the ground, his cannon shells can be blocked by heroes, minions and jungle monsters.
- Has no crowd control to protect himself.
- All of his damage is physical, so armor and physical damage reduction skills cut it down easily.
- Struggles against tanky heroes who body-block his shells and against damage-reflecting items.
