Heroes That Counter Annette

Annette Annette is a mage support built around protecting her team. Her passive Whisperwind Whisperwind builds up points whenever nearby heroes cast skills and turns them into healing for the whole team. Diviner Diviner slows and can pull two targets together to stun them, Gust Force Gust Force creates a whirlwind whose damage ramps up with each wave, and her ultimate Hurricane Wall Hurricane Wall knocks enemies away and raises a wind wall that stops them from crossing. She is also very hard to catch with stuns. If she gets stunned, Diviner’s cooldown is instantly refunded along with a shield, and Hurricane Wall cleanses crowd control when cast. On the downside, Annette is quite squishy and has almost no way to protect her team while her ultimate is on cooldown. Teams that group up inside the wind wall are also easy targets for long-range AoE skills. Confinement-type crowd control, CC immunity and long-range area damage are what give her the most trouble. Notable counters to Annette Annette include Baldum and Chaugnar at support, Wisp, Laville and Brunhilda in the Farm Lane, Yue in the Mid Lane, Fennik in the jungle and Florentino in the Clash Lane.

Gilded Greaves

Gilded Greaves Gilded Greaves grants +35% Resistance, shortening the duration of every type of crowd control. Both the 1-second stun when Diviner Diviner pulls two targets together and the 50% slow from the wind orb get shorter, letting you leave the Gust Force Gust Force area before its ramping damage ticks can stack up.

Medallion of Troy

All of Annette Annette ‘s damage is magic damage, from Diviner Diviner and Gust Force Gust Force to Hurricane Wall Hurricane Wall . Medallion of Troy Medallion of Troy grants up to 112 magic defense based on level, and every time you leave combat you get a shield that absorbs 460 – 1300 magic damage, enough to soak up her entire opening poke.

Gaia's Standard

Gaia's Standard Gaia's Standard restores 5% max HP over 2 seconds whenever you take damage (10-second cooldown), and the healing increases by 5% for every 10% HP missing. Annette Annette ‘s poke with Gust Force Gust Force splits its damage into many small ticks, so this item helps you recover HP between her skill casts.

Terra Unbind

Activating the Unbind effect of Terra Unbind Terra Unbind cleanses all crowd control from you and nearby allies, plus 0.5 seconds of CC immunity (90-second cooldown). Press it right after two teammates get pulled together and stunned by Diviner Diviner , or when the whole team is slowed inside Gust Force Gust Force , so your team can counterattack in time.

How to counter Annette in 1vs1

Don’t line up: The orb from Diviner Diviner passes through the first victim, and if it hits a second one, it pulls both together and stuns them for 1 second. In lane, avoid standing right behind a teammate or minion in the direction Annette is aiming.

Get out of the whirlwind’s center: Gust Force Gust Force deals damage every 0.25 seconds, each tick stronger than the last, and anyone in the center also takes an extra 2% max HP and gets slowed. Step out of the area as soon as the whirlwind appears instead of trying to trade back.

Don’t open with a stun: When stunned, Annette instantly gets Diviner’s cooldown refunded, gains a shield, and receives bonus armor and magic defense for 2 seconds. Deal your damage first and save the stun for when this passive is on its 45-second cooldown.

Commit to your attacks: At 15 stacks of Whisperwind Whisperwind , the whole team is healed as long as Annette or a nearby ally is below 70% HP. Light poking only helps her trigger the passive, so once you go in, fight to the end.

How to counter Annette in fights

Bait out the ultimate: Let a tank or fighter engage first to force Annette to use Hurricane Wall Hurricane Wall early. While her ultimate is on cooldown, she has almost no way to protect her marksman, and that’s when the real teamfight begins.

Don’t charge into the wind wall: Hurricane Wall knocks back nearby enemies, then raises a wall that stops opponents from crossing for 3.5 seconds. Standing at the edge of the storm makes you easy to knock away; back off, hit the enemies clumped up inside with long-range skills and wait for the wall to fade.

Pick the right kind of crowd control: Hurricane Wall cleanses crowd control when cast, while stuns trigger Diviner’s shield. Suppression-type control like Wild Prison Wild Prison from Baldum Baldum is the best option to lock her down before she can pop her ultimate.

Focus Annette first: Every skill cast in a teamfight helps Whisperwind Whisperwind build stacks. Take her down early and the enemy team loses both its healing source and its protective wall.

Tips for Countering Annette

Strengths to Watch Out For

  • Hurricane Wall Hurricane Wall knocks enemies away and raises a wind wall that stops them from crossing for 3.5 seconds, which is great for splitting up the enemy team.
  • Her passive Whisperwind Whisperwind heals the whole team, so drawn-out fights work in her favor.
  • Diviner Diviner slows by 50% and can stun two targets at once.
  • Hard to catch with stuns: getting stunned refunds Diviner’s cooldown along with a shield, and her ultimate also cleanses crowd control.

Weaknesses to Exploit

  • Squishy; very hard to survive when focused by assassins or mages.
  • Heavily reliant on Hurricane Wall; her protective power drops sharply while the ultimate is on cooldown.
  • Has no escape skill other than the dash from Hurricane Wall.
  • The healing passive needs 15 stacks and only triggers when someone is below 70% HP.
