Yena Gameplay Guide

How to Combo Yena

Basic Yena combo:

  • In dual-blade form, use Skill 1 Crescent Strike to dash and hit the target; once Skill 1 Crescent Strike has refreshed, dash again.
  • Immediately activate Skill 2 Spinning Sickle to block the enemy’s path.
  • Every time you cast a skill in dual-blade form, weave in basic attacks to deal extra damage and trigger the passive Lunar Phase to silence the enemy.
  • Then quickly use Skill 3 Full Moon to switch to greatsword form.
  • Use Skill 2 Spinning Sickle to deal damage and control the target — try to cast it so it hits both the enemy hero and the spinning dual blades you threw earlier, to reduce the cooldown when you pick the blades back up.
  • Finally, use Skill 1 Crescent Strike to burst damage, then use Skill 3 Full Moon to switch back to dual-blade form.

How to Use Yena's Skills Effectively

Passive Lunar Phase :

  • Yena gains bonus movement speed in dual-blade form, so take advantage of that to chase, flee, or move across the map.
  • While in dual-blade form, attack the target as many times as possible to quickly stack Moon Slash points, dealing damage, slowing, and silencing the enemy while granting yourself a shield once you reach 5 points.
  • In greatsword form, Yena loses attack speed but gains crowd-control immunity plus damage immunity, so use this form when you need to dodge the enemy’s important skills or dive into fights.

Skill 1 Crescent Strike :

Dual-blade form:

  • Use the terrain-crossing dash to close in and attack the enemy or escape a dangerous situation.
  • Try to land the dash on a target so you can dash again once more.

Greatsword form:

  • Damage increases the longer you charge it, and especially, charging for 1.5 seconds or more grants the skill a knock-up effect, so time your charge sensibly.
  • Time it precisely so you can activate this skill a second time.
  • While casting, you can combine it with Flicker to change the skill’s direction and surprise the enemy.

Skill 2 Spinning Sickle :

Dual-blade form:

  • Throw the dual blades spinning at a location, dealing continuous damage to clear minions fast, zone the enemy, contest objectives, or check bushes.
  • Move to the location to pick the blades back up and reduce this skill’s cooldown.

Greatsword form:

  • Close in on the enemy before casting so the successive slashes continuously slow and push them back, leaving them nearly frozen and unable to do anything.
  • You can pick a casting position so you keep pushing the enemy back into a disadvantageous position before knocking them up, creating an opportunity for your teammates or your tower to attack the target together.

Skill 3 Full Moon :

  • Use this skill when you need to switch between greatsword and dual-blade forms.
  • At the moment of switching, Yena deals a fairly large amount of damage to nearby targets, so take advantage of that to attack the enemy or clear minions fast.
  • Keep landing basic attacks after switching to dual-blade form to take advantage of the bonus attack speed for 5 seconds.
  • When you need to burst damage with skills, switch to greatsword form since Yena gains a big physical attack boost.

How to Play Yena in the Early Game

Entering the match, if you’re jungling, start from the red buff first since Yena doesn’t cost energy to use skills.

Take advantage of the mobility from Skill 1 Crescent Strike to dash across jungle camps and use the attack speed from dual-blade form to speed up your jungle clear as much as possible.

If you’re laning, focus on farming minions since Yena isn’t really strong before level 4, so avoid trading skills too much with the enemy.

Note: land Skill 1 Crescent Strike on a target to dash again, and throw Skill 2 Spinning Sickle while a minion wave is standing still so it can deal continuous damage to them.

How to Play Yena in the Mid Game

The mid game is when Yena is at their strongest, with continuous skill combos dealing massive damage, so the best strategy for this stage is to gank continuously to maximize that advantage.

When dueling or picking off a lone enemy, use dual-blade form to take advantage of fast, strong damage from the bonus attack speed.

In fights or against enemies with a lot of crowd control, switch to greatsword form to gain crowd-control and damage immunity, helping you outplay the enemy more easily.

How to Play Yena in the Late Game

By the late game, take advantage of openings to split push towers or hunt down enemy heroes who are alone, but don’t forget to quickly return to your team when a full team fight is about to break out.

You can use bushes to charge Skill 1 Crescent Strike in dual-blade form, or charge it combined with Flicker to deal massive damage and knock up multiple targets at once, creating a huge advantage for opening fights.

Then, thanks to the crowd-control and damage immunity of greatsword form, dive in to close on the enemy carry and combo them down to secure the final victory for your team.
