Heroes That Counter Toro
Items to counter Toro
Each hit strips 6% of the target’s armor, stacking up to 4 times and lasting 5 seconds. Toro tends to stand his ground in the middle of fights thanks to Battle Will and the shield from
Battlecry
, so attacking continuously keeps all 4 stacks up, helping your whole team deal physical damage to him more effectively.
Dragon’s Breath makes basic attacks deal bonus physical damage equal to 8% of the target’s current HP. Toro is a high-HP tank who usually charges into fights at full health, so your first attacks on him deal massive damage.
The Piercing passive grants 20% armor penetration, doubled for ranged heroes, while Godbreaker adds 50 physical damage to each basic attack. Marksmen use this item to shoot through Toro’s armor instead of letting him soak damage for the whole team.
The 40% bonus magic penetration lets mages deal damage to Toro more effectively when he builds magic defense. Combined with max-HP-based damage, like the center of Annette’s
Gust Force
, your magic skills will chip his health down much faster.
Each time a skill or attack hits an enemy hero, you gain a stack of 10 – 24 magic penetration, up to 10 stacks, lasting 3 seconds. Toro stays in fights for a long time, so mages who deal sustained damage like
Lauriel
can easily keep full stacks to make their magic damage on him hurt more.
How to counter Toro in lane
Stay off his charge line:
Bull Rush
is Toro’s main engage in lane; it charges straight ahead and knocks up. Don’t line yourself up with him, and poke from range while this skill is on cooldown.
Step out of the Battlecry zone:
Battlecry
deals damage after 1 second, hurting more the closer you are to the center, and if it hits an enemy it resets Bull Rush. Leave the area as soon as you see him charging up so he doesn’t get a second charge.
Focus another target: Toro has a shield and Battle Will for damage reduction, so trading with him in the Dragon Lane usually isn’t worth it. Once he has used his combo, focus the enemy marksman while his skills are on cooldown.
Use CC between his skills: Toro’s passive grants CC immunity while casting, so save your stuns and knock-ups for right after he finishes.
How to counter Toro in teamfights
Spread out before Cracked Earth:
Cracked Earth
leaps to a chosen location and stomps 3 times: the first two slow, the third knocks up. Stay spread out so he can’t knock up several people at once.
Leave the center early: The first two stomps deal extra damage in the center zone. Step out to the edge right after the first one instead of eating all three.
Cut him off from your carries: Annette’s
Hurricane Wall
blocks his path with a wind wall, and Baldum’s
Wild Prison
traps him for 3 seconds. Use them when Toro has just dived in and burned his skills.
Keep an escape route: Avoid fighting in narrow spots next to walls, where a single Bull Rush charge can pin your whole team in a corner. Always have a direction to back off while you fight.
Tips for Countering Toro
Strengths to Watch Out For
- CC immune while casting skills thanks to his Tough Hide passive.
- Battle Will stacks up damage reduction and converts into healing after leaving combat.
- The Bull Rush, Battlecry and Cracked Earth combo chains knock-ups, slows and more knock-ups.
- Battlecry grants a shield and resets Bull Rush when it hits an enemy.
Weaknesses to Exploit
- Only has Bull Rush and Cracked Earth to engage, easy to kite.
- No CC immunity outside of casting skills.
- His crowd control requires being close to land; highly mobile heroes dodge it easily.
- Vulnerable to true damage, HP-based damage and armor penetration.
- Cracked Earth needs all 3 stomps to knock up, giving opponents time to step out.
