Heroes That Counter Taara

Taara is a fighter who gets more dangerous the more HP she loses, and can play both the Dark Slayer Lane and support. Her passive Fighting Spirit Fighting Spirit grants bonus physical attack for every 1% of max HP lost; each regular skill or ultimate costs 4% or 8% of her current HP but restores 6% of missing HP over 3 seconds. Skill 1 Colossal Smash Colossal Smash leaps up and slams the ground for physical damage and a slow, skill 2 Whirlwind Whirlwind spins her hammer to hit nearby enemies twice, and her ultimate Steeled Focus Steeled Focus heals 6% max HP plus 6% of missing HP per second for a duration along with bonus movement speed. Taara Taara ‘s weaknesses: apart from the leap on Colossal Smash she has no dash, her kit has no crowd control immunity, and her sustain relies almost entirely on healing. Anti-heal, true damage and well-timed crowd control strip away all her advantages. Taara’s counters include Florentino, Maloch, Allain in the Dark Slayer Lane, Mganga, Lauriel in the mid lane, Hayate in the Abyssal Dragon Lane and Gildur as support.

Items to Counter Taara

Curse of Death

Against Taara, Judgment is a must-have effect for physical heroes: basic attacks or skills that land reduce healing by 40% for 3 seconds. Steeled Focus heals 6% max HP plus 6% of missing HP per second and Fighting Spirit restores missing HP after every skill, so cutting her healing is the fastest way to bring her down.

Tome of the Reaper

Mages like Lauriel or Mganga should buy Tome of the Reaper against Taara. The Judgment passive reduces healing by 40% for 3 seconds every time a skill hits; keeping it applied the whole time she has Steeled Focus active makes her ultimate heal far less.

Fafnir's Talon

Dragon’s Breath makes basic attacks deal bonus physical damage equal to 8% of the target’s current HP (0.3-second cooldown). This item hurts most when Taara is at high HP, such as at the start of a team fight or right after Steeled Focus has pushed her HP back up.

Berith's Agony

The Agony passive makes enemies hit by skills take magic damage equal to 2% of their current HP plus 80 every second for 3 seconds. A mage who keeps poking Taara with skills will burn her HP constantly, especially when she’s at high HP after healing with Steeled Focus.

How to Counter Taara in 1v1

Don’t trade while she has her ultimate: Steeled Focus Steeled Focus heals 6% max HP plus 6% of missing HP per second for a duration. Diving in while it’s ready is setting yourself up to lose; farm, poke lightly or leave the lane to help elsewhere.

Be careful when Taara is low: Her passive Fighting Spirit Fighting Spirit grants bonus physical attack based on missing HP, so a low-HP Taara is when she hits hardest. If you’re not sure you can burst her down in one go, don’t stand and duel her.

Get anti-heal early: Each of her skills costs current HP but restores part of her missing HP over 3 seconds. Curse of Death or Tome of the Reaper cuts both this healing and her ultimate.

Dodge the Colossal Smash leap: Colossal Smash Colossal Smash is Taara’s only way to close the gap quickly, and it also slows. Step to the side when you see her jump, then counterattack while it’s on cooldown.

How to Counter Taara in Team Fights

Pick easier targets: Don’t dump all your damage into Taara while she has Steeled Focus Steeled Focus active. If an enemy marksman or mage is standing nearby, switch to them first.

Isolate her from your carries: Taara only has her Colossal Smash Colossal Smash leap to dive the backline. Use crowd control, slows and body-blocking so she can’t reach your marksman.

Crowd control her during Steeled Focus: Her ultimate’s movement speed helps her engage or retreat. A stun from Gildur Gildur or any crowd control at this moment stops her from using that speed.

Strike while her ultimate is on cooldown: Once Steeled Focus Steeled Focus is used up, Taara only has her passive healing left. This is when your team should pour in true damage from Florentino Florentino , Maloch Maloch or Hayate Hayate to take her down.
