Heroes That Counter Fennik

Fennik Fennik is a kiting marksman who can play both the Abyssal Dragon lane and the jungle. Skill 1 Detonator Detonator attaches a detonator to the target that explodes 4 seconds later (or sooner if he lands 4 basic attacks), while also letting Fennik leap a short distance and gain attack speed and attack range for 4 seconds. Skill 2 Electric Zap Electric Zap rolls forward while untargetable, slowing enemies and leaving a static trail behind. His ultimate Supersonic Vortex Supersonic Vortex creates a supersonic storm that continuously deals damage, slows and stacks detonators, with the center dealing double damage. His passive Slingshot Slingshot also briefly reveals enemies around him. Fennik’s weaknesses are that all his damage is physical, he has no CC immunity, and Detonator’s leap can’t go through walls. He is at his weakest when his physical damage is blocked, when he’s silenced, or when he’s caught after using Electric Zap. Fennik’s counters include Tel’Annas, Stuart in the Abyssal Dragon lane, Omega at support, Keera, Paine in the jungle, Zata in the mid lane and Arthur in the Dark Slayer lane.

Sonic Boots

The Acceleration passive reduces damage taken from basic attacks by 10%. Fennik needs 4 basic attacks to detonate early and gets attack speed from Detonator for 4 seconds, so most of his damage comes through basic attacks. The 60 movement speed also makes it easier to chase him or dodge the storm.

Shield of the Lost

The Sentinel passive reduces the attack speed of whoever hits you by 30% and their movement speed by 15%. With slower attacks, Fennik struggles to land 4 hits to detonate early, and with reduced movement speed his kiting becomes far less effective, making it much easier for melee heroes to close in.

Arctic Orb

Activating Seal makes you invulnerable and immobile for 1.5 seconds, then grants a shield for 1 second. Pop it when Fennik’s detonator is about to explode or when you’re stuck in the center of Supersonic Vortex, where damage is doubled, to dodge that entire burst. With a 75-second cooldown, save it for truly dangerous situations.

How to counter Fennik in lane

Count the detonator timer: Detonator Detonator explodes 4 seconds after being attached, or as soon as Fennik lands 4 basic attacks. Once you’re tagged, don’t stand still and let him keep shooting; back out of his range and save your damage-blocking skill for the moment the blast goes off.

Strike after Electric Zap: Electric Zap Electric Zap is Fennik’s most important escape. Once he has rolled to poke or run, dump your damage immediately and avoid standing on the static trail he leaves behind, since it still deals damage and slows.

Pin him against walls: Detonator’s leap can’t go through walls. Fight in narrow areas and cut off open paths before landing CC, and Fennik will have very few ways to retreat.

Bushes aren’t completely safe: His passive Slingshot Slingshot reveals enemies around him for 1 second, once every 6 seconds on the same target. Don’t hide too long near Fennik; close in quickly right after you’ve just been revealed.

How to counter Fennik in team fights

Get out of the eye of the storm first: Supersonic Vortex Supersonic Vortex deals damage every 0.5 seconds, slows and stacks Detonator, and the center hurts twice as much as the outer area. When the storm appears, prioritize stepping out of the center before thinking about fighting back.

Crowd control as soon as the fight starts: Fennik has no CC immunity. A stun from Veda Tech Veda Tech , or a silence from Sword of Justice Sword of Justice or Elegy Elegy stops him from leaping or rolling to keep his distance, and your teammates just need to pile on the damage.

Block physical damage: All of Fennik’s skills deal physical damage. A team with heroes like Stuart Stuart or plenty of armor will strip most of the power from his storm and Detonator explosions.

Stick close to your carries: Fennik likes to stand behind minions to kite. Supports or fighters should stay near your marksman and mage so they can jump on him whenever he steps up to plant Detonator.

Tips for Countering Fennik

Strengths to Watch Out For

  • Detonator boosts attack speed and attack range for 4 seconds, plus a short leap for repositioning.
  • Electric Zap rolls through while untargetable, leaving a slowing electric trail.
  • Supersonic Vortex controls a whole area, slowing and stacking detonators on multiple enemies.
  • His passive reveals nearby enemies, making him hard to ambush from bushes.

Weaknesses to Exploit

  • All of his damage is physical, making him very vulnerable to physical damage immunity and defensive items that counter basic attacks.
  • No CC immunity; getting silenced or stunned shuts down all his escape routes.
  • Detonator’s leap can’t go through walls, so he’s easy to corner.
  • Detonator needs 4 seconds or 4 basic attacks to explode, giving opponents time to react.
