Astrid
Introduction to Astrid
▼Astrid is a solo Top Lane fighter in Arena of Valor, standing out with her recovery when low on health and strong shields in team fights. Astrid's kit lets her charge through the frontline, deal true damage and hold up well under pressure. In the mid game, Astrid is strong in duels, easily cornering marksmen or mages and surviving long fights thanks to her explosive skill set.
Besides the Top Lane, she can also play Jungle. Her passive, Sword Heart, lowers her cooldowns with every basic attack that hits an enemy hero, so Sword Draw and Valor come up often to stack attack speed, dash in and gain a shield. Her ultimate, Giant Sword, makes her immune to damage and crowd control while she charges, then unleashes a swing of true damage that stuns every target hit.
High damage and low difficulty are her big pluses; on the other hand, her base health is low and she has little crowd control, so Astrid's staying power relies heavily on her shield and ultimate. The guide below covers the item build, Arcana, Enchantments, summoner spells, combos, skill usage and how to play through each phase.

How to Play Astrid in the Early Game
.In the early game, if you’re jungling with
Astrid
, start with the blue buff first. Try to pull the blue buff and the beetle close together so you can use the wide range of Skill 1
Sword Draw
to hit both at once.
Clear your jungle rotation quickly to reach level 3 or 4, then gank lanes where enemy heroes have pushed too far, or team up with your allies to take major objectives when the situation is favorable.
If you’re taking
Astrid
to the top lane, also use the wide range of Skill 1
Sword Draw
to clear minion waves fast and poke the enemy. When you get the chance, play aggressively, gank, or invade and harass the enemy jungle, since
Astrid
is quite strong early on. However, note that during the first 4 minutes of the match, invading the enemy jungle will make the Guardian Spirit Bird follow you, revealing your position and reducing your damage dealt by 10%.
How to Play Astrid in the Mid Game
The mid game is
Astrid
‘s strongest phase thanks to the fairly big damage from her combo, so focus on ganking, joining small skirmishes, pushing turrets, and securing major objectives.
Hunt down the enemy team’s squishy heroes: use Skill 2
Valor
to close in, then Skill 1
Sword Draw
then a basic attack to reduce your cooldowns. If the enemy isn’t dead yet, use Skill 3
Giant Sword
to finish them off.
All of these skills have a fairly wide range, so aim to hit as many targets as possible.
How to Play Astrid in the Late Game
By the late game,
Astrid
isn’t particularly strong in full team fights due to her fairly limited health, but her damage is still very high, so a good strategy is to split push to pressure the enemy team into splitting up to defend.
Use the terrain-crossing dash of Skill 2
Valor
well to jump out of a bush and kill an enemy hero caught alone, or to escape when the enemy hunts you in a group.
If you have to join a full team fight, watch for the moment heavy damage is about to focus
Astrid
, and quickly activate Skill 3
Giant Sword
for damage immunity and crowd control during its 2-second channel, then use those 2 seconds to dive into the middle of the enemy formation, since Skill 3 stuns every enemy it hits.
All that’s left is to burst down the enemy’s core damage dealer and secure the win.
